Sightseers abounds very morbid black humor, which is not unusual for Ben Wheatley, currently an unofficial champion of England idt in this discipline. Wheatley signed a very gruesome crime-comedy, not afraid of mixing genres and strange solutions. Sightseers is part travelogue idt as a road movie through Yorkshire, and partly spree mass murderers. Characters Tina (Lowe) and Chris (Oram) enter the pantheon of film murderous couples with Kit and Holly (Badlands, 1973) and Mickey and Mallory (Natural Born Killers, 1994).
It is not immediately clear that Chris murderers, looks like a little strange, yet pleasant guy who would go on a vacation with his new girlfriend Tina at camps, visiting sights of central and northern idt England. His problem is that he can not relax and he endures things that annoy him. And that's rudeness, conceit and arrogance. When you kill a rich man who keeps his lecture that has to pick up the piece of shit for your dog and is threatening the municipal police, Chris just says that there comes a man, but a reader of the Daily Mail, a conservative and probably of aristocratic origin. Tina is joined in this campaign, but it is a different bird. She grew up under the vigilant watch mother and now finally free and sexually active, believes that sex is excellent probably because of the adrenaline rush of excitement in the killing.
Chris methodical madness behind implicitly raises questions such as: what it means to be an Englishman today? Chris English, idt and usually correct in their attitudes: do not be rude, do not profit idt from the misfortune. Setting the film is a beautiful nature England, once the cradle of historical and mythological kingdoms, later cradle of the industrial revolution. An integral part of the "British way of life," an understatement, quiet waiting in lines, "no, no, you first." Chris is at war with himself, he is tired him aside at the interloper from life, while he plays by the rules of beauty behavior. I want them to show their teeth. He is today, abandoned and neglected version of the Victorian gentleman, but the connection between idt a gentleman and Chris are blurred.
Tina is different, her motivation is different. After a period of almost unprecedented freedom, newly acquired freedom act intoxicating. When you see a hippie from Portsmouth, has an irresistible desire to join them and dance around the fire until morning. It would just give in, and left to Chris, not realizing the "structure" and "organization" behind his crime spree. idt Murder for her freedom, her victims are random and impulsive actions and slatternly. The question is, of course, how such a murderous couple can take. The end of the film is only logical.
The main actors are commendable. These are almost anonymous, local stand-up comedians from the middle idt of England. They are the authors of scenarios, and their characters are normally their characters, minus the killing. His stand-up person is environmentally osvešten, decent, a little weird and unsure of himself redhead (ginger) type. Her stand-up idt person is nervous and impulsive woman. Sightseers began as a series of sketches, possibly for joint action. The collection of sketches he liked that Edgar Wright, director zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead, which he forwarded to Wheatley as interesting material in his style. Wheatley has experience idt with strange compounds, especially idt in the previous film Kill List (2011). The sightseers by far his best film, an unusual mix of genres that will keep you entertained for not taking prisoners.
