DOAJ St Etienne | The counter open access james watson
Today, few French organizations financially support the Directory of Open Access james watson Journals (DOAJ): james watson only 3 organizations are mentioned in the list of member libraries! Of these, the Jean Monnet University of Saint-Etienne is a pioneer, because it is adherent since 2010 Rouger Dominique and Caroline Bruley, librarians SCD, agreed to answer our questions about this support:
- You participate financially for several years running DOAJ, what motivated this commitment at the outset? Membership in DOAJ is a real political will on the part of the leadership of the CPC, which wants the OA is part of the documentary landscape of our university. This membership is a way to show researchers with whom we discuss the open yes, BU takes physical part for OA access. It's also a way to do justice to the work of DOAJ: a few hundred dollars for a database of thousands of titles in open access, this is small price to pay: there is work, hard work, behind maintaining such a knowledge base.
- What promotion do you have in place to DOAJ? Resources for OA in general? DOAJ, and other sources of OA journals are integrated database with digital magazines. Now we are referencing more titles in OA (9200) as paid-for titles (6800)!
Otherwise, for all journals, we provide a link to Sherpa / Romeo access james watson policies for publishers, as well as to other services: Eigen factor, SNIP and SCImago for bibliometric indicators JournalTOCs for summary format RSS . We also post news on the home page dedicated to digital magazines, which do not address that open access, but which we hope will help to disseminate information.
- Support for the DOAJ has he been a way for you to educate researchers at the University of the challenges of OA? Yes, because we ensure that in seeking reviews in our database they can also see open access journals. Similarly we their "offer" link to Sherpa for other shows! : -) We are trying to encourage reflection in informal discussions with researchers, although they still abut the same problems, namely the lack of recognition of the journals in the subject area, and costs (sic)! james watson sometimes manage to make their way. In fact, we begin to talk about it at the advice of the literature calls it little by little professors.
- Your researchers have changed their behavior vis-à-vis the scientific publication they publish more in journals open access? We do not think we can say that there was mass conversion, far from it. One can only speak of awareness, site preparation ... for an indefinite maturity! And remain very modest awareness of just a few! Some may have been aware, or more, without us being aware ... we can hope anyway! There was no corporate campaign SCD at the university. - Your knowledge, your university journals did they go to the OA? To our knowledge james watson there is no journal published by our university. Publications of the University of Saint Etienne deal only monographs, primarily SHS.
- What other plans do you have regarding open access to St Etienne? We joined SPARC Europe, but continued membership is more uncertain than that of the DOAJ, due to finances at half mast.
For the record, DOAJ today is access to over 9,000 journals from 119 countries and the potential for research at the paper for more than half of these journals ... A membership to DOAJ for a library university in 2013, is 400 euros - so why go?
